The annual Shire Hall Kicking Cup was staged on the new pitch - trouble was the posts nearest the clubhouse had been taken down for the close season which meant that the contestants had a serious wind to contend with. Former winners Chris Walker, Sam Watkins and Rhys Stewart competed for the famous trophy. It was noted that this competition had seen some 'rogue' winners in the past, like Toaf Walton, Geraint Thomas, Matt Parting and Chris Harber but this year should be different as previous holder, Rhys Stewart, had been in good form during the season - well apart from the Staines Cup game that is!

The early kicks did not bode well as many simple kicks from in front of the posts were missed - all the contestants blamed the cross wind!! Because of the low numbers in attendance, it was decided that everyone should have an attempt at all distances, including the drop goal. Ryan Darby impressed with his huge height achieved with his kicks - sometimes his direction was wayward. As the competition progressed, everyone landed a successful kick but the further the distance increased, a dark horse emerged. Young Gwyn Gwyn Robins who had had a fabulous season in the games was landing most of his kicks to become a serious contender for the title.

It all came down to the drop kicks. With the scores tied between Rhys Stewart and Gwyn Robins, the stage was set for a nail biting finale. Rhys shanked his drop goal but Gwyn landed his to become The Shire Hall Kicking Cup winner for 2024. It has to be mentioned he achieved this honour by wearing pumps - who needs boots!!
